Important: From there, you can go back to the app, and click on "setup biped" on the homepage. All the steps are on the app directly. Feel free to follow them here if it's more convenient.
2. What's inside the box?
Put the box in front of you on a flat surface and open it. To prevent transportation damage the devices are bedded in styrofoam. To better locate components in the box, there are dots engraved in the styrofoam.
In the box, you'll find a biped device, 2 batteries, and 1 charger.
3. Learn to use biped
We developed an online training program to get started with biped without having to leave your home. This training was designed with occupational therapists and is made of various levels of gradual complexity. You should complete the first 6 levels before you can use your biped device.
To start the training program, on the app, click on « Learn to use biped » and complete the first 6 levels, until « Obstacle elevation » is included.
Note: you only need to complete this once, and we recommend doing it with every tester. It takes 7 to 10 minutes.
4. Switch biped on
Before you can switch biped on, start by sliding the battery into the device. Make sure the battery is loaded. Each battery lasts around 3.5 hours. Once the battery is in, the fan of the device will turn on.

5. Pair biped
To pair your biped device with the app, click on "Connect biped". Click on « Search for biped device » and wait until your biped device pops up on the available devices. Click on the name of the device and wait until you have the validation sound played.
Note: Pairing may take up to 45 seconds when you just turned biped on.
6. Pair headphones
To have the best audio experience, while using biped, we recommend using a pair of Shokz OpenRun Pro headphones. These headphones consist of two small hooks, which sit behind your ears, and one larger bar that is placed at the back of your head. To turn the headphones on, press for 3 seconds the button to turn the volume up. This button is located on the right side of one of the smaller hooks. If you use the headphones provided, you don't need to put them in pairing mode, this has already been done by our team. In the app click on "connect headphones", select pre-defined headphones and wait until it's connected.
7. Place biped on your shoulders
Before you place biped on your shoulders, pre-shape the straps by bending them. Place biped as the last layer on your shoulders, on top of your jacket. The cameras are on the left side of the biped device. Make sure nothing occludes the cameras (like a scarf, part of your jacket…). The cameras should look in front, and be relatively flat (perpendicular to the ground). The battery should also be quite close to the body in the back.
Note: If you don’t wear biped properly on your shoulders, once you click on « Start walking », a voice message will warn you.
8. Define settings
To make sure that you have the correct settings in place, click on « Profile » on the app, and make sure that the settings are correct (user height should be changed for each new person testing the device).
You can also change settings once biped is running.
9. Go outdoors
After you have completed the audio training and defined all your settings, it's time to use the biped device. On the app, click on « Start walking » and you should start to hear sounds. These sounds should feel similar to the sounds you have heard in the training before
To learn how to use biped, we recommend going outside. You can do this step alone, or with the support of someone else if needed. Please follow the procedure below to put your training into practice.
Step 1: go outdoors and make sure that your surroundings are free (typically a park, a parking lot, or any open area)
Step 2: make sure biped is correctly placed on your shoulders and the cameras are not covered (for example scarf, hair, jacket...)
Step 3: click on "start walking"
10. Real-life audio-training
To get used to the sounds biped generates in practice, do these exercises one after another:
Exercise 1: place your hands in front of biped, it will generate a sound. That's the sound of a close obstacle.
Exercise 2: stand in front of a wall and walk slowly towards it. You should hear the sounds get closer and closer.
Exercise 3: do it again and walk a bit faster in the direction of the wall. Adjust the obstacle detection threshold If you feel like obstacles are detected too late. This is useful to adjust biped to your walking speed.
Exercise 4: Stand next to a ground-level obstacle and then next to a head-level obstacle to hear the difference. If needed, you can ask a relative to place their hands above the cameras or below the cameras to simulate this.
If you hear too many sounds, it could come from a heavy light, reflective surfaces or rain are preventing the cameras from working 100%. We are aware of these limitations and are working on a future update to improve this. It could also come from a wrong setting: make sure you have a short obstacle detection threshold, and that you have set your height properly in the settings too, this is important.
11. Give feedback
Once biped is running, you can at any point click on « Stop walking » and provide feedback on the next page. Our team will carefully review it (whether positive or negative) and take quick action on it.
12. Do updates
Regular updates will be published by our team. You can find them in « Profile » on the app, and then in « Update software ». First, define your wifi credentials (name of the wifi and password). This is used by biped to do updates faster. Then, click on « Search for updates », and if a new update is available, it will be displayed.
Leave your device next to the phone and the wifi router for a couple of minutes. Once the update is finished, you can restart the device by unplugging the battery and plugging it in again.
Note: At the current stage, updates might take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. This will be optimized soon.
13. Turn off the device
You can easily turn off biped by pressing the ON/OFF button on the device, on the case on the right of the chest, below. The sound of the fan will completely turn off, and you can also turn off the headphones by pressing the "plus" button for a couple of seconds.
You can then place the battery on charge with the magnetic charger provided. When the device is on charge, the LED on the cable will turn orange. A full charge cycle will take around 3 hours.
